The very beginning for me 20/6/1993
The first haul out you do before you buy, and we get some people around us who are well qualified to survey a complicated structure like a seagoing yacht. Date: 20th of June 1993. This day we purchase Monsoon after inspection and positive recommendation by her original designer mr Don Brooke from Auckland/New Zealand. The yard is in Newport Beach (USA/Cal). Here we start our life with Monsoon. A vessel is not like a car. Once you have your boat, you have to take care and start living with her. At that point in 1993 there is a lot of maintenance to be done to this yacht Monsoon, which is structural in near perfect condition, but lacks completion. So to start we want to make her seaworthy for the planned voyage to New Zealand, the country where Monsoon was built in 1978. Mr Brooke tells us its better to do the real big work in the yard of his friends in Greenhite/NZ. It will save us lots of money. This looks like an interesting plan to us: first go sailing, and than make conclusions and plans and do the refit in New Zealand.
