Work list 2006 ....... we're
gonna make a new deck

Again we go to Shipyard Varadero Caribe in Cumana Venezuela, after good experiences in 1999 and 2002.

We remove old teak and rusty steel

Weld new plating onto the existing frames

Weld 800 studs all on pre calculated places

Sandblast the whole lot

Paint it

Cover the whole lot with 2x450 grs fibre mat in epoxy

Bolt down the side and center boards of 2 inch thick purple hart in epoxy glue

Bolt and epoxy glue 15mm marine plywood

On top of that we screw and epoxy glue another layer of plywood, 12 mm

Make the new stern platform of 2x2=4 inch purple hart

Bull works are sandblasted and 5 times painted with two pot epoxy

Make all new all around CAPRAIL of 2 inch purple hart.

On top of the upper layer of plywood on the deck comes 2x450 grs fibre glass in epoxy

The anchor rollers on the bow are rearranged and will turn out to be very ok.

Time to experiment with colors, temporarily hull color dark blue and cap rail metallic turquoise. The final choice of colors will be presented in 2008 when the vessel will be entirely painted new.

We decide eliminate the dinghy david's at the stern and we make a permanent hoist+cradle on the for deck. The experience has shown us that during big passages david's cause damage to dinghies, so most of the times we store the dinghy anyway on the fore deck. The stern will be more open now, one sees the sheer line better and have more view on following seas from the aft deck.

We rebuild the forward interior that was removed in order to avoid fire during the welding of the deck steel.

First insulation with poly urethane foam

Than new timber and varnish and paint, a new and the rearranged forward double is there.

In Puerto Sucre Cumana we re step the mast and the first part of the job is done.

Next year, 2007, we will continue this operation with quarter sawn BURMA teak planking that is on its way to Curacao.
